British fashion icon, 40-year-old Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London apartment Wednesday morning a little over a week after his mother had passed away.
He had been tweeting about his grief with statements like this, from Feb. 3:
“I’m letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx…”
The Daily Mail reports an ambulance was called to the address at 10:20 a.m. and it is believed he hanged himself.
“It is a tragic loss,” a source at McQueen’s office said. “We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.”
According to People.com one of the designers’ lines, McQ, was scheduled to be shown at New York Fashion Week today.
Alexander McQueen began his career at the age of 16 after leaving school to pursue his passion for fashion. He worked in fashion destinations Italy, Japan, and London and was a four-time winner of the British designer of the year award as well as the international designer of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
