ARE THE PLAYOFFS ALREADY SET?
I was looking at the MLB standings today and I noticed that it is going to be very difficult for any contender to sneak into the playoffs this year over the teams that are currently leading the Division and Wild Card races. Maybe San Francisco can “cowboy up” to sweep the Diamondbacks. I doubt it. Will Chicago be able to make a run at Detroit? Sure, but you have to beat Verlander to complete a sweep and that’s not in the cards. Like Cleveland, the White Sox will probably be turned back and sink.
Boston and New York are virtual lock for the playoffs and Texas does not seem likely to be overtaken by the Angels.
In the N.L the Phillies are “The Center of the Universe” and the clear favorites to go to the World Series. The Braves will be the Wild Card. The Brewers are awesome and with a 5 game lead it is difficult to see where the Kirk Gibson led Diamondbacks will not win the West. So why don’t we just start the playoffs on September 1st? Anybody disagree?
