Kids

First, it’s not a big surprise that Brett decided to come back for a 20th season.  If he has a halfways decent year, he’ll probably be back for a 21st.  That being said, the question of the day is can he bring the Vikings another shot at the Super Bowl?  Last year Brett had his career year, racking up the best year, statistically, of his long career.  Expecting numbers like that are unrealistic.  Why?  Because Brett will be 41 years old in October and while he has played through injuries throughout his career, he has had a couple of rather serious injuries the past 2 seasons.  Anyone over the age of 35, no matter what shape they’re in, knows that the little aches and pains that came in their 20’s are far more serious in their late 30s and 40s.  Heck, some days it takes a couple of hours after awaking just to limber up.  Just imagine getting smacked around by 300 lb NFL defensive linemen.  Brett is just a big hit away from retirement and he knows it.  Of course, any NFL player is in the same boat, but most of them aren’t 41 years old!  Let’s face it, Favre will be playing against guys that are young enough to be his kids and, seriously, do you think that some of them wouldn’t relish the chance of being the guy that ends Brett’s career?  Do you think they’ll hold back just because it’s Brett Favre?  I doubt it.  A lot of things need to go right, like they did last year, for Brett to have another great year.  I expect Brett to have a good, not great year, if he survives the rigors of the season.  Will it be enough to get the Vikings to the Super Bowl and win it?  Any football fan knows that it depends on a number of factors.  Potential injuries, not only to Favre, but, to Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, who knows who all else, all come into play.  All that being said, although I think Brett Favre is a media hogging, needy, prima donna, I do respect his abilities and I hope he has a typical Favre year and can ride off into real retirement relatively healthy. Good Luck, Brett!

I want to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Jack Tatum. I have called on Jack over the years to help in one youth sports activity or another. West Pittsburg Youth Football, and Antioch Youth Football. He always made himself available to the kids. He inspired my sons more than you will ever know. He would come and see them play football during his season, and I know he was busy.  Jack and I have teased each other over the years me being a Wolverine , and he a die hard Buckeye. I’m a staunch 49er fan, and he a hardcore Raider.  He has really had the upper hand as far as the Buckyes versus the Wolverines in the past few years. The world is a colder place today on his leaving us.   He never ever really got his just due from a sport that he loved dearly. we talked about this once, and I’ll never forget what he said. “I regret Darryl was injured, but never the act. I was playing the game the way I was taught, and to do less would classify me a hypocrite.” He was always true to the game.   Please say a prayer for Jack and his family tonight, and may The Supreme Being grant him Peace and Life everlasting. Absolutely horrible:  - Berman was “lost” on many occassions, ticker had info on trades posted long before comments. Was an intern producing this? We never did get the details on most of the trades  - way too many field reporters; for what?  - what were Gruden, Young and Jackson doing on the set? Bernam lost control, Young and Gruden tried to dominate the “I KNOW what is/did happen” pronouncemenmts, each touting their own expertise; Jackson became visibly frustrated and stopped talking and I’m surprised Kyper didn’t just walk off the set.  - and then Tim Tebow, the 25th pick, was the only kid drafted that was interviewed at any length and only asked essentially “Why do you think you will succeed when almost all experts say you do not have what it takes”   This should have been entirely about the kids drafted, their reactions – most of which we hardly saw or heard. I would think that the last thing one of those kids wanted to hear after their name was called was Berman, Young or Gruden questioning why they were picked! If they know so much, why aren’t they GM’s …. And the salute to service members was a total abortion. The focus of the show should not have been the panel. Kyper & McShay did all the “leg work” leading to that time and then were dissed for Gruden, Young and Jackson who were bad beyond belief. Pretty disgusting when we saw more of the “coming soon” Coors fridge keg and the “Tell the Truth” Direct TV plackards than the kids who were the reason this event was supposed to be about.
