Money

The most hated team in America vs. what is apparently the most beloved.  It’s the bad guys vs. the little team that could (or more accurately the little team that can’t).  USC vs Boise St.:  Who would win if they played on the opening weekend?   I know Pete Carroll left.  I know that USC is on probation.  I know they hired that buffoon Lane Kiffin to coach them, but my money would be on the TROJANS!  I think they would smoke Boise St.:smileywink:   “We would kill them.” – Lane Kiffin talking about Boise State

You can call him that. I, personally, call him a hell of a player, competitor and, YES, a businessman. I bet you fifty cents the team will reap benefits double or triple of the money he will earn, just by him showing up on the field. And the Vikes know that. It’s a win / win situation. The guy has made football FUN to watch. When he eventually retires, I’ll probably turn on the old movie channel instead of the NFL. Not really, my heart is with the Black and Gold from the ‘Dome. But still, there’s been only one Brett Favre.

I guess the Beatles were right….Money Can’t Buy Me Love.  Man up, Al!  If you want out, say so!  You’ve collected your money, see if you can scam some other team for more!

Is it just me or are more players refusing to report to training camp these days or getting in more trouble outside of the sport than in past years?. I believe that with all the money being put out for the top players and new draft picks, it “the newfound wealth” is going to many players heads. I truly believe that some of these guys believe the world will not turn without them. I would compare this problem to bringing up a child and telling them they are the best thing that happened to their parents and they can do anything better than anyone else and can do no wrong. Paying these players up front is another issue that needs to be addressed. In “the day” you would work for your money and not get 10-20 million given to you before you do any work. I say the league needs to get a grip on the situation and stop producing a bunch of spoiled brats. Just my opinion!

I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT ALL OF THESE PREMADONNAS SHOULD SIT OUT THE WHOLE SEASON, INCLUDING JOHNSON, WHO THINKS THEY SHOULD BE PAID MORE MONEY, HOWEVER, ON THE OTHER HAND I DO FEEL THAT PEYTON DESERVES MORE MONEY, BECAUSE HE HAS PLAYED LONGER AND DESERVES IT FOR ALL THE HEADACHES. HE HAS PERFORMED IN A GREAT DEAL OF PLAYOFFS AND I FEEL THIS SHOULD ACCOUNT FOR SOM,ETHING. THERE HAS GOT TO BE OTHER PLAYERS ON TEAMS THAT ARE JUST AS GOOD, IF GIVEN THE CHANCE, THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN OVER NITE BUT YOU HAVE GUYS SITTING ON THE BENCH, WHO NEED AN OPPORTUNITY.  IF YOU RECALL WHEN THEY WENT ON STRIKE THAT TIME THE SITTING BENCH DID A FANTASTIC JOB AND IT WASN’T LONG WHEN THEY CAME BACK TO PLAY THE GAME. ALSO, I FEEL THAT THE SECOND STRING SHOULD PLAY THE FIRST GAMES TO GIVE THEM A FEEL OF WHAT ITS LIKE. THE PRE-GAMES AND MAYBE THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. gRAMMY 67

Of course Oswalt doesn’t want to go to the Phillies and he really isn’t that interested in winning. His ego won’t let him be a number three starter even for all the money he makes.

TO MR. CORPREW: I’M UPSET that you have the gall to associate Vick with integrity and character. If ANYTHING is built on integrity and character, it SHOULD NOT be associated with Michael Vick, ESPECIALLY when kids are involved. Return their money until a sports star WITH integrity and character is prepared to sponsor such a venue.

I had hoped that college football could somehow survive the money-grubbing mentality that is blowing up all the great tradition. I guess not. Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, etc. in the PAC-10? Let’s see Midwest team with their own storied history suddenly in a west coast division. It’s sports blasphemy. It’s all about money, money, money…in the end tradition means nothing and that is very sad.

The first 3 game series between the Cubs and Sox is underway this weekend, and this time, for the first time, the winner of the season series will be awarded a trophy sponsored by BP.  A FAKE TROPHY.  FROM BP.  Now excuse the cynic in me for thinking that maybe instead of sponsoring fake BS trophies in Chicago, that maybe their money could be better spent cleaning up the disaster they’ve created in the Gulf of Mexico.  Just a thought.  Now I am glad the Sox won the first 2 games of the series, but on this I would like to join Cubs and Sox fans together.  Because of this stupid trophy, I hope the Cubs split the season series with the Sox and the two teams collectively take part in destroying this hunk of junk.  We have a REAL trophy in Chicago right now. Thanks, but no thanks BP.
