Years

I want to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Jack Tatum. I have called on Jack over the years to help in one youth sports activity or another. West Pittsburg Youth Football, and Antioch Youth Football. He always made himself available to the kids. He inspired my sons more than you will ever know. He would come and see them play football during his season, and I know he was busy.  Jack and I have teased each other over the years me being a Wolverine , and he a die hard Buckeye. I’m a staunch 49er fan, and he a hardcore Raider.  He has really had the upper hand as far as the Buckyes versus the Wolverines in the past few years. The world is a colder place today on his leaving us.   He never ever really got his just due from a sport that he loved dearly. we talked about this once, and I’ll never forget what he said. “I regret Darryl was injured, but never the act. I was playing the game the way I was taught, and to do less would classify me a hypocrite.” He was always true to the game.   Please say a prayer for Jack and his family tonight, and may The Supreme Being grant him Peace and Life everlasting. ROB MIXON

The American College Football Association awards a sportsmanship award each year. This year there are 112 nominees. This list includes Austin Davis,RS JR QB of the University of Southern Mississipi. Austin has thrown for 4,293 yds in his 1 1/2 yearsas a starter at USM. He also has made the Dean’s list[3.0 avg] for all 3 of his years as a student. With all the negative blogs and articles we see, I thought we could use a positive change. It is very likely he will resume his role as starting QB aftetr missing 1/2 a season to injury.Oh, and his freshman year he was the starting LF on the baseball team.

I WAS LOOKING FOR MY MISSISSIPPI BOY, BRETT, ON THE LIST. I KEPT GOING DOWN THE LIST PAST # 12 OR SO AND I THOUGHT “OH WELL THEY FORGOT HIM, PROBABLY JUST AN OVERSIGHT”. bUT WHEN I SAW HIM AT #46, I FREAKED OUT. IT MAY JUST BE ME, BUT I THOUGHT HE AND THE SAINTS POWER OFFENSE MADE THE WHOLE SEASON FUN TO WATCH! ANYONE ELSE HAD GONE THROUGH THE BEATING HE WENT THROUGH IN THE PLAYOFFS, THEY’D HAVE STAYED  DOWN AND THOUGHT “HELL, I’M NOT GETTING BACK UP, I WANT TO LIVE A FEW MORE YEARS”. I CANNOT FREAKING BELIEVE IT!?!?  43?

These one-day contracts to “retire as …” are so daft and should be so embarrassing for the team and player. Yes, Thomas was great in his years as a Dolphin, but these photo-op spectacles are nothing more than that. You retire from the GAME, or in his case, were released by the Chiefs. The “respect” for your former employer can be shown when/if inducted into the Hall of Fame by requesting your portrait show you in your preferred uniform.

I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND, OUT OF 50 SOME PLAYERS ON THE ROSTER, YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THERE IS NOT ANOTHER PLAYER TO TAKE HIS POSITION, TIL HE GETS BETTER. SURE IN THE DRAFT YOU TAKE NEW PLAYERS BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ONES FROM PREVIOUS YEARS THAT NEVER, NEVER EVER GET THE CHANCE, MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??????????????? GRAMMY 67

Congratulations to this years Hall of Fame class!  Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith you could see coming a mile away.  So I don’t get bleeped for this I’ll refer to him as Richard Lebeau and it’s been long overdue for him to get in.  Floyd Little has a special place in my heart even though I was born a few years after he retired.  I agree with Rickey Jackson and Russ Grimm getting in, but I’m a little surprised that John Randle got voted in over Cris Carter.  Like Art Monk, looks like Cris Carter will have to wait a while yet to receive his well deserved props.  I’m also surprised that Richard Dent didn’t get in.  I mean none of this as any disrespect to John Randle.  I just feel there are guys that were better players and have waited longer to get in.

If the NFL continues to damage it’s credibility that Pro Football is actually a real and fair competition between two teams, then the NFL is doomed. Because of the revenue involved, it is unlikely that the NFL would go away forever, but the chance of no games being played for the 2011 season is almost inevitable right now. The owners will still get paid TV rights, billions in fact, for 2011. That will only further hurt the fan base. Another cash-grab debacle superbowl like some of the memerable shams in recent past,”That seattle/Pittsburg SB was the worst professional game of any sport I have ever seen.” in this years big game, and you can kiss the NFL as you know and love goodbye.

I don’t about the rest of you out there, but this last weekend was the Super Bowl.  The playoff between the Saints and Vikings was one of the greatest games ever.  I love Brett Farve, but I love the Saints as well.  I will be watching this years Super Bowl between the Saints and Colts, but it will not have the excitement as this last weekends game.  I was heartbroken for Farve and excited for the Saints at the same time.  I will of course be rooting for the Saints who have never been this far and I know that they will win this games.  To Brett, thank you for this years and all the years before.  Go Saints
