The Boston Red Sox seem to be missing a General Manager and a field Manager. With all the Boston fans on this MLB Forum I’m sure there are some of you have your favorites. As a Yankee fan I would like to see Larry McPhail as G.M and give Grady Little another chance as Boston’s Manager.

09:16 PM EDT on Thursday, September 29, 2011 By BRIAN MacPHERSON Journal Sports Writer In many ways, the Red Sox next season will look much like the Red Sox looked this season. Most of the key contributors — from Jacoby Ellsbury, Jon Lester and Dustin Pedroia to Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, and John Lackey — are under contract for next season. A handful of Red Sox go into the offseason with more uncertainty. David Ortiz, Jonathan Papelbon, J.D. Drew, Jason Varitek and Tim Wakefield will all be free agents. Marco Scutaro and Dan Wheeler could become free agents if the Red Sox decline to pick up their options. But not many of them were in much of a mood to talk about their respective situations in the immediate aftermath of the season-ending loss in Baltimore. “I don’t even want to talk about me and situations right now,” Varitek said. “I don’t think it’s appropriate.” “You’re asking me?” Scutaro said. “I just work here. Ask the big boss.” Ortiz and Papelbon figure to represent the biggest challenges the Red Sox face. Both played at exceptional levels this season, the collapse of the team not withstanding. Ortiz hit 40 doubles and 29 home runs to go along with a .398 on-base percentage, his highest since 2007. Papelbon bounced back from what was, by his standards, a subpar year a season ago to post a 2.94 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.7. Both figure to field lucrative, multiyear offers — offers the Red Sox might or might not match. Neither wanted to think much about that late Wednesday night. “That’s something that I can’t control,” Ortiz said. Papelbon called Boston “obviously an organization I want to play for.” “I think I’ll be remembered as a guy who came up through the organization and learned how to play baseball the Red Sox way, point-blank, and helped bring a 2007 World Series to the table,” he said. “Those things don’t go away. Times like this, they go away.” Tim Britton contributed to this report.Status Report A look at the contract status of key Red Sox players Under contract •Adrian Gonzalez: Signed for seven more seasons; will make $21 million in 2012 •Carl Crawford: Signed for six more seasons; will make $19.5 million in 2012 •Josh Beckett: Signed for three more seasons; will make $15.75 million in 2012 •John Lackey: Signed for three more seasons; will make $15.25 million in 2012 •Kevin Youkilis: Signed for one more season, plus team option in 2013; will make $12 million in 2012 •Daisuke Matsuzaka: Signed for one more season; will make $10 million in 2012 •Dustin Pedroia: Signed for three more seasons, plus team option in 2015; will make $8 million in 2012 •Jon Lester: Signed for two more seasons, plus team option in 2014; will make $7.625 million in 2012 •Clay Buchholz: Signed for four more seasons, plus team options in 2016 and 2017; will make $3.5 million in 2012 •Marco Scutaro: Contract includes $6-million team option and $3-million player option for 2012 •Bobby Jenks: Signed for one more season; will make $6 million Total payroll committed for 2012: $121.625 million Arbitration-eligible players Alfredo Aceves Matt Albers Mike Aviles Daniel Bard Jacoby Ellsbury Rich Hill Jed Lowrie Andrew Miller Jarrod Saltalamacchia Free agents Erik Bedard J.D. When all is said and done what applies is the old addage by Dukakis “The fish rots from the head down.” Maybe he and his “boys” in the war room can develop a metrics system to judge character? Get rid of Beltre and VMart who proved themselves in Boston and bring in JD Crawful.

Now that I can reflect on last night it was flat out the best night of baseball I can remember. Three games that really had a meaning. NY managed to do in one game what Boston did for a month.  NY was one strike from winning and then it all happened.  A great comeback.  In Atlanta they almost matched Boston by blowing a 8 and 1/2 game lead but like NY that game went late and was flat out exciting with so much riding on it. The rain delay in Baltimore allowed clicker overdrive as Boston – like NY – was one strike for winning and poof. All this was going on at the same time and if you are a fan of any sport it was an exciting (and disappointing) evening.

I said it when it happened and I was ignored. Ortiz had NO BUSINESS hoisting that SC. If the hockey players have their tradition of NOT touching it until you win it, then the big man trying to get a photo op–  as always– brought a curse into the RS locker room. Yep, the most “beloved” baseball player in Boston disrespected hockey and the nation is paying for his huge ego.

I guess I would like to see diamondbacks, or Detroit win it all, .   In the AL I will root for either Texas or Detroit, I prefer Detroit, because I like Jim Leland. Than diamondbacks, than st Louis, than Texas, than phillies, the only teams Im rooting against is Yankees and rays, but the rays may surprise everyone,   the rays beat the red sox last week but the sox suck with their lousy pitching and don’t count these 3 games because giradi let the rays win, the Yankees could have easily won the game tonight if they put in mariianio, but as I said, letting the rays win is going to come back and haunt Giradi.     Oh free, you and randy and little fireman Eddie can now **bleep** each other up the **bleep** in each others basements while your watching the Yankees, who supplies the vaseline, or should I say vagisal, I heard fireman Eddie is going for a sex change.  Maybe bogo can go over and watch, he can quote some meaningless stats and make comments no one understands or cares about.  If he came into some Boston bars I know off spouting his nonsense someone would knock the daiquiri out of his hands and **bleep** slap him. Bogo says no way, he only drinks pink squirrels.     Goodbye posters, I’m outta here, you 6 regular posters became tiresome..

Im not trying to be a smart A–.  I am curious. as i said I’ve lived in Cali since the early 80′s and yes I was embarrassed for the Red Sox, especially in 1986 with the buckner error and epic collapse. and Yes Im embarrased now because the sox are pitiful and most of their big signings have been terribile, Agon is the saving grace. If I was from chicago I would be embarrassed and I wouldnt support the team until they tried to put a WS team on the field. again, im not trying to dis-respect cubs fans, I guess if you live in chicago and are surronded by cubs fans its no big deal, but when I lived in boston and left home It was only than I became embarrased for the hard luck losers the red sox were, in Boston I was surronded by fellow fans, outside of beantown I was laughed at for the red sox and 1986 up until 2004 were tough and embarrassing years. is going on 108 years, have you fans had enough.  To put in perspective.  the phillies went 90 years, until 1980. the white sox went 94 years until 2005, the red sox 86 years until 04, and the cubs I think 108 years. If i was from Philly or a white sox fan I would have been just as embarrassed.

As I predicted last spring and all summer the N.Y Yankees tonight clinched the A,L East Championship and currently have the best record in the A.L assuring their many fans of many games being played this fall in Yankee Stadium. In beeating the Tampa Eays 4-2 in both ends of a doubleheader while Boston was blown out by Baltimore the Yankees preserved Boston’s lead for the A.L Wild Card spot. The Yankees will next face the depleted Red Sopx in a 3 game set and perhaps return the favor to either Tampa or the L.A Angels who are tied at 2.5 games behind Boston for the Wild Card. Inany case it’ refreshing to see a new younger Yankee team continue the tradition of all the 27 Yankee World Championship teams before them. They just outplayed the league and are looking to do the same to whoever they meet in the playoffs.

AL  Division winners:   New York Yankees – East     Detroit – Central           Texas – West       Wild Card:  Boston   NL  Division winners:  Philadelphia:  East               Milwaukee – Central      Arizona – West    Wild Card:  Atlanta   Who will win the WS after playoffs?  A Detroit – Atlanta World series would please me just fine.   How about you?

OH, ITS CRYING TIME AGAIN YOU’RE GONNA LEAVE ME. I CAN TELL BY THAT FARAWAY LOOK IN YOUR EYES……. Well, the Red Sox Nation is reacting in the predictable way of jumping ship now that 2 of the last few starters left for the Red Sox were injured today and the Red Sox failed to reward some truely remarkable long relief pitching with even a single run while Toronto finally pushed a run across andn beat Boston 1-0 causing them to fall 2.5 games in back of the Yankees while Tampa gained a game for the 2nd straight day in the Wild Card standings. I listened to some New England radio station this evening and the Nation fans were just blasting Adrian Gonzolez for rarely hitting home runs in the second half of the season. That AGone is hitting over .330 did not dampen the Red Sox “fans” desire to see Gonzolez, Francona, Theo, Henry, Beckett, the bat boy and maybe even the popcorn guy banished from Boston. If I was Boston management I’d work out a trade with Baltimore and exchange their whole team and ballpark for Baltimore’s situation. It won’t be that expensive, The Red Sox already have a “B” on their cap. That would result in the “Nation” really have something to cry about from April on. Oh well, It’s crying time again in Boston and I look for both a spike in anti-depressants being distributed in Beantown tommorrow and the Tampa Bay Rays overtaking the Red Sox for the Wild card.
