I’d hoped to get last seasons chair winners to do a preseason top 25 apiece for the soon to start season.   I’d do the pick out of 10 and ask for guest slate makers for some weeks, Fl Duck, Melviss, Ghone come to mind for openers.   Pretty much use the same format  as last season and award 3 chairs to rank the mythical top 16 at the end.   Before listing, I cut my final pasting from just before final bowls last year:::     teams eliminated by post season bowl losses:   7. WI 10 MI St 14. AR 15. MO 16.VPI   So…. by thread final top 16 that leaves:   1. OR 2. Auburn 3. TCU 6. Stanford 8. Ohio St 13. OK   looks to me like this years’ “screwees” would be Stanford and TCU.   I say this because I think Ohio St would have lost to either OSU or Stanford coming out of their bracket, I think Stanford is playing well enough to play with anyone right now. I think OK would have lost to either LSU or Auburn.  TCU would have had to face OR in their quarter final bracket and stats say OR wins. (just another ‘belly button’).   SO…   IF AL had not been eliminated by Auburn during the reg season, IMO they would be OR’s opponent in a mythical playoff semifinal, and Auburn would have to face Stanford on the other side (just imagine that Duck, lol)   Frankly having seen everything to date, those could very well be the 4 very best teams in 1a ball right now.   Oh well, ifs and buts.   To make everything nice and tidy and to provide grist for the major college blah blah mill,  I would envision OR and TCU tied for a separate REGULAR SEASON TITLE CROWN, with O having a shot at validating and emphatically reiterating that status in a spot in the PLAYOFF TOURNAMENT NC game versus Auburn.   To me that makes Stanford the victim of the biggest screwing because I am not sure Auburn could beat them in our thread format semifinal.  Not to alienate anyone I also think a healthy AL team would be a serious test for OR on the other bracket side.   To me it is just as conceivable that OR and Stanford could have had a rematch in a play off title game ; or likewise with Auburn vs AL having the same sort of scenario if thay had won through their brackets.   I don’t want to offend anyone, but I just arbitrarily see TCU being discarded and OR handling OK or Ohio St to make it through.   I think I am dreaming here.    Imagine that…..     PLAYOFFS !!!!!     Week 1, 2011     1) Villanova @ Temple 2) TCU @ Baylor 3) Northwestern @ Boston College 4) Delaware @ Navy 5) BYU @ Ol Miss 6) Boise St @ UGA 7) USF @ ND 8) LSU vs Oregon 9) CO @ Hawaii 10) UCLA @ Houston     Tie Breaker:   James Madison @ VPI (and TOTAL POINTS scored)

I don’t understand, Yankees get to play while big break for the boston.

A Rays fan, a Yankee fan and a Red Sox fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves their team the most. The Rays fan insists that he is most loyal and then yells, “This is for Tampa Bay!” and jumps off the mountain. Not to be out done, The Red Sox fan next professes his love for his team. He screams, “This is for Boston!” and pushes the Yankee fan off the mountain. Re-post if you’re a Red Sox fan!! Go Boston!!!

Right now LAA is seven losses behind NY in the WC race and although that is not insurmountable it doesn’t look good.  Quite an uphill haul against a team with the second best record in the league.  NY and Boston may or may not make some deals but it appears any movement is geared towards shoring up some deficiencies for the final push and getting themselves ready for the real season – the playoffs.   Getting back to LAAAAAA it looks like their best option is Texas since they are only two losses down.  The rest of the potential WC pack such as TB, Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago are real long shots as time is running out. Getting to that point where someone needs to get real hot and a few go real cold.

The Yankees should stay clear of Rockies Ubaldo and I thought this from the start. Last year was a good year for the pitcher but that’s a long way from there to here and now and when? His # changed in that division for the worst I can only imagine how much more damage those # will take coming into the AL East?! I think the Yanks are being kind in openly stating him as a # 2 starter? Let the sox rest this guy from them since they seem to be either trying to jack up the deal or they’re genuinely interested it shouldn’t matter, the Yanks should stay away. This would be no better and probably worst then Javier Vazquez pitching NL as opposed to AL?   I believe the Yanks should stick with trying to get Hardin(just released from Oak DL) They wont pay such a high price as they would dealing with the Rockies? Go with trying to land Hardin and keep Nova in the Bargain?   Here are two different reports I’ve read just this morning.   (Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that talks between the Yankees and Rockies regarding Ubaldo Jimenez “have not gone well.” The main reason, Sherman says, is because the Rockies view Jimenez as an ace, while the Yankees view him as no better than a No. 2 starter. The main prospects reportedly being between the two squads are Jesus Montero, Dealing Betances, Manny Banuelos and Ivan Nova, though Betances and Banuelos might be untouchable as far as the Yankees are concerned, especially if they view Jimenez only as a No. 2 starter.)   ____________________________________________________________________________________________________   (SI.com’s Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are “aggressively” pursuing Ubaldo Jimenez. Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reported just Thursday that the Red Sox were “not hot” for the Rockies’ ace, but that’s apparently changed. Boston is in pursuit of a top-notch starter as a result of the ongoing back issues with Clay Buchholz, not to mention the struggles of John Lackey, Tim Wakefield and Andrew Miller. Heyman says the Indians, Reds and Blue Jays are also in on Jimenez, with the Yankees “lurking.”)     I think the Met’s dealing Beltran to the Giants was smart all around, some of the Philile phans are wondering why management didn’t peruse, maybe cause they knew the Mets weren’t going to leave him in that division let alone deal him to their division rivals? The Mets most likely would rather have the SFG win it all considering the other favorite is the phills?

Earlier today, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that Patriots guard Logan Mankins and Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson have requested either free agency or $10 million each in exchange for their signature on the settlement of the case. Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe later reported (as we had pointed out several weeks ago) that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Saints quarterback Drew Brees want to be exempt from the franchise tag. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/19/manning-brees-mankins-jackson-need-to-quit-trying-to-cut-their-own-deals/ What is your take on these special requests?

Is he worth all the agony of having him on the DL all the time?   Now the big question is who would take him?   Just because he bats about 50 points higher than most catchers doesnt make him worth the money or the headaches..   New York, do you have any top line prospects we can trade for?  Or how about you Boston?  Probably the only two teams who can afford him or would pay him that kind of money     Never Question The Voice

Crash In NY

Tragedy hit Major League Baseball as the New York Yankees bandwagon crashed early Friday morning, injuring 347 fair-weather Yankee fans. Witnesses say the Yankees bandwagon began teetering uncontrollably as thousands of fans jumped off following the Yankees’ being swept by the Boston Red Sox for the sixth straight game at Yankee Stadium. “It was madness,” said witness JoAnn Emery. “As soon as the Yankees lost, those people started streaming off the bandwagon like rats jumping off a sinking ship.” Luckily, the bandwagoners escaped with only minor injuries, landing on gigantic piles of discarded Yankee jerseys, hats, t-shirts, and other souvenirs. Yankee bandwagoner Steve Frederton was one of the many injured in the crash. “I don’t even know why I was on the bandwagon,” said Frederton while applying an ice pack to his bruised ego. “I never really liked the Yankees, especially not now. What a bunch of losers.” Frederton then went to a nearby store to purchase a Boston Red Sox jersey. Many loyal Yankee followers blamed the crash on upstart fans with no real ties to the team. “I’m an old-school Yankee fan — I’ve been following the team since way back in ’96,” said Nick DiLucci while bandaging his scraped pride. “These new fans, they’ve got no sense of tradition. At the first sign of failure, they’re out the door. With so many of them around, there was bound to be trouble.”

Well fans, the Chicago White Sox just ended up today sweeping the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. This is hardly unusual as the White Sox regularly beat the Red Sox both in Boston and in Chicago. All one of the Red Sox players could say was “Gee, they weren’t playing so good when they came in here”. The sweep cost the Red Sox the lead in the AL- IMPORTENT A.L East where it was regained by the Yankees while they were sweeping Oakkland with three outstanding starting pitching performances by Bartelo Colon (a complete game 4 hit shutout!), Steve Garcia, and A,J Burnett. Any comments RED SOX NATION?

Since sweet Lou isn’t coming back to baseball, I would love to see Ozzie Guillon from the white sox take over for Francona and send Francona to Chitown.  Tito is a great guy Im sure, but Ozzie would tell the players how it is going to be, not what he wants them to do.  I think Francona is a good manager and his players really respond to him, but like Joe Torre, he’s just too close. After 8 years he has a lot to be proud of with his stint in beantown, but I think he and the sox would be better served with some new blood in the clubhouse. A lot of people thought Joe Giraradi was a bad replacement for the soft spoken Torre, where Joe girardi is more hot tempered, that was the speculation when girardi first took over.  I don’t follow the Yanks except when they play the Angels or the sox, but from all accounts Giradi has done a good job and the players respond to him.   Tito will always be respected and well remembered for his 2 WS championships and will be a legend in Boston, like Yaz, Williams, Rice, and Fisk, its just time to move on.
