Why can’t football players wear helmets any more? Watching both college and pro, I keep seeing players getting tackled, bumped, or just plain falling down, and their helmet pops right of their head. It wasn’t hit, or pulled off by another player. The players just don’t wear them right. Sooner or later, someone will get hurt badly, and THEN there will be a public outcry. If the NFL really wanted to keep players safer, they would require them to wear helmets properly. Perhaps an incentive would be to put in a 10 yard penalty if a player’s helmet comes off. As it is now, I worry every time a player goes into a pile (whether or not he has the ball). Waiting until someone is paralyzed because his helmet came off is the typical sports mentality today, but I hope we get smart sooner. And the NCAA will ignore it until they are sued. I’m even seeing this happen in high school games. Don’t we care about our younger people any more?
