Giants

Has the game of football become too big and fast for a smallish running back to survive for any length of time? Today, the Eagles announced that they have released Brian Westbrook. To many around here, the move was inevitable. B’West is nowhere near the offensive threat that he was just 3 or 4 years ago, and his contract was too big to support a third down specialist. Plus, his injuries have been coming more frequently, and they are no longer just the nagging variety. With his two concussions last year, his durability is even more in question than it was before. While I understand the move from a football sense, it still qualifies as a shame that someone of Westbrook’s talent and modesty should go downhill so fast. He brought us Eagle fans a lot of great memories (with that punt return against the Giants being right at the top of the list), and he will be missed. The Birds have not often had a player who was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. Brian Westbrook was one of those. So, it seems that the Eagles have committed to LeSean McCoy as their every down back. Shady did play well in Westbrook’s absence last year. We all just hope that he carries forward from there. One requirement for his continued success, though, is that the Birds have to sign Leonard Weaver. He showed that, not only is he an excellent fullback to use to open up holes for McCoy, but he is an offensive threat in his own right. He should be a priority. Andy, are you listening? Let’s see how long it takes the NFL forum picture to be changed to one of Drew Brees, the Saints, etc. The Patriots photo never came down even after the Giants beat them in the SB, yet Roethlisberger’s pic went up nearly immediately.  The MLB forum still shows the Phillies even though they were dethroned months ago. Any predictions?
