I’d hoped to get last seasons chair winners to do a preseason top 25 apiece for the soon to start season.

I’d do the pick out of 10 and ask for guest slate makers for some weeks, Fl Duck, Melviss, Ghone come to mind for openers.

Pretty much use the same format  as last season and award 3 chairs to rank the mythical top 16 at the end.

Before listing, I cut my final pasting from just before final bowls last year:::

teams eliminated by post season bowl losses:

7. WI

10 MI St

14. AR

15. MO

16.VPI

So…. by thread final top 16 that leaves:

1. OR

2. Auburn

3. TCU

6. Stanford

8. Ohio St

13. OK

looks to me like this years’ “screwees” would be Stanford and TCU.   I say this because I think Ohio St would have lost to either OSU or Stanford coming out of their bracket, I think Stanford is playing well enough to play with anyone right now. I think OK would have lost to either LSU or Auburn.  TCU would have had to face OR in their quarter final bracket and stats say OR wins. (just another ‘belly button’).

SO…

IF AL had not been eliminated by Auburn during the reg season, IMO they would be OR’s opponent in a mythical playoff semifinal, and Auburn would have to face Stanford on the other side (just imagine that Duck, lol)

Frankly having seen everything to date, those could very well be the 4 very best teams in 1a ball right now.

Oh well, ifs and buts.

To make everything nice and tidy and to provide grist for the major college blah blah mill,  I would envision OR and TCU tied for a separate REGULAR SEASON TITLE CROWN, with O having a shot at validating and emphatically reiterating that status in a spot in the PLAYOFF TOURNAMENT NC game versus Auburn.

To me that makes Stanford the victim of the biggest screwing because I am not sure Auburn could beat them in our thread format semifinal.  Not to alienate anyone I also think a healthy AL team would be a serious test for OR on the other bracket side.

To me it is just as conceivable that OR and Stanford could have had a rematch in a playoff title game; or likewise with Auburn vs AL having the same sort of scenario if thay had won through their brackets.

I don’t want to offend anyone, but I just arbitrarily see TCU being discarded and OR handling OK or Ohio St to make it through.

I think I am dreaming here.

Imagine that…..

All star/Pro bowl games are supposed to be fan favorites, showing their goods, having fun and entertaining the fans. Fans that have paid crazy ticket prices, traveled hundreds, thousands of miles, staying at over-priced hotels and paying marked up tourist prices for local goods.    Last night’s game was entertaining. I’m sure some fans even cared who won……What really ticked me off was, with about 2 minutes left, the NFC took 4 knees……This is an All Star game…..The season is over for those players….   I’m a Pat’s fan, not much of a Bellichek fan, but when “the hooded one” used time outs to keep the show going and try to get a younger player a score, I realized, Belichek knew what All Star games were all about……    Travel to Hawaii to not finish “The Show”…..Shame on the NFC

One of the other threads mentioned that Hawaii should get the worst performance in a bowl game for their recent 27 point loss.  I thought, with 28 more bowl games to go, we should nominate a few teams and track the results, upsets and poor play and rejoice in the victories, fine plays and the fact that we have a feast of football for the next few weeks.  Please, do not pick out a single player to ridicule or berate, the media will do a good enough job of that.   UTEP, losers by 28 points, currently leads by point spread.  Hawaii and Ohio are a close second, each with 27 point losses with Utah and Fresno State close behind with a 23 point spread.  Navy only lost by 21 while the Southern Mississippi team put out a great performance, only to endure a 3 point setback.   Nominations will also be taken for Bonehead Coaching Situations (hereafter referred to as the BCS, it’s only appropriate) also a What the Hell Were You Thinking Award for the absolute worst play either by a player or a coach.  Again do not name the player, just team and position.  If you want to publicly demean someone, look up the info and write to your local newspaper.  Keep your narrow-minded hatred local instead of going National.  Coaches on the other hand are open for complete ridicule, persecution, torture, public flogging or whatever else you deem reasonable.   My pre-game choice for loss by largest point spread is University of Washington Huskies versus Nebraska.  I like the Huskies but their early season loss to the same team and their up and down play for the season leads me to believe history will repeat itself.  UConn and Boston College are also in the running.  Oklahoma is so powerful I don’t see the Huskies from the East Coast performing any better then the ones on the West Coast.  The fact that both teams are named after dogs is not a reflection of their talent, just a funny coincidence.  Nevada’s high flying offense should ground the Boston College Eagles.  I’m sure there will be plenty opinions and arguments for and against a selection so don’t dwell too long, state your pick  and enjoy the games.
