Here is the premise. The year that Tom Brady missed, the Pats went 11-5 under Matt Cassell. This year, the first games that Peyton Manning has missed in his entire career, the Colts have started 0-6, and have not looked good. Does this mean that Manning means more to his team than Brady? And, by the same token, does this mean that Manning is a better QB?

I am not going to give my opinion just yet. I am just throwing a locally hot topic out there to see the responses from my NFL friends.

I want to wish all the posters and their favorite team or teams win, good luck, and good health.  The free-agent market has been crazy, and alot of teams are making statements..Eagles, Pats, Saints trading a heisman trophy winner and sign another.  Cowboys making big name cuts.  NcNabb now a Viking, QB’s on the move. Besides the ” Academy Award Winning Performances”. from the wide receivers trying to get a pass interference call. I hope they dont jump the gun on the roughing the quarterback call that seems to happen. I recall a game where a defensive lineman rushed in on Peyton Manning and the offensive lineman twisted him around and pushed him backwards and he fell on Peyton Manning and they called roughing the passer.? and Peyton looked at the defensive lineman with the biggest grin on his face and he knew he got a free penalty. College sports is a joke, especially at the bigtime NCAA Div. I football and basketball levels. I recall Peyton Manning, when at the Univ. of Tenn. held the coaches and fans alike hostage by his supposed indecision as to whether to remain or not for his senior year, or go pro. Of the people I knew, there was little doubt he would stay at UT rather than go pro. He waited till the last minute to announce it for the height of the anticipation factor. It was nothing more than that. The reason he had no qualms about remaining in college for that last year had to do IMO with family income. His family had the money to purchase insurance on him in the event he became injured his senior season in college. Also, he had plenty of walking around money on campus. The urgency was not there to grab the instant millions that the NFL would have brought his way. With the bucks a school like UTenn brings in because of Saturday afternoon football, and doing it squarely on the backs of those who compete, there is no excuse in my opinion for not giving the players a stipend in addition to their scholarship. The Manning families of the world do not need such funding, but the poor need it. They spend the money getting these kids recruited and tutored but when a kid looks up in the stands and sees half the kids with his name on their back he cannot make a cent off of selling an autographed shirt. I am sure others will disagree but I think it is a disgrace these kids who go to class and, basically, have two fulltime jobs cannot get one cent for it without getting themselves and the school in trouble. Who knows some of these kids may have never gotten in trouble for selling a little bit of weed had the school put a few bucks a month in an account of theirs. If coaches can make literally millions of dollars over the course of, say, four years, surely the guys on the field that actually make or break the coaches career could get a little spending money put in their pocket.

Here are four Quarterbacks that won multiple championships and that rushed for over a thousand yards in their careers: Johnny Unitas 1777, Joe Montana 1676, Bart Starr 1308, and Terry Bradshaw 2257.  All four have 16 NFL Championships between them.  Joe Montana had 5 rushes for 59 yards and a TD in his Super Bowl XIX MVP performance.  Dan Marino had 1 rush for 0 yards.  You can’t argue with success.  Quarterbacks that run when all else fails get the job done time and time again.

It’ll be interesting to see which Quarterbacks step up come playoff time an deliver a big first down for their team by running as well as throwing.
