I have always considered this ever since I was old enough to say Carl Yastremski. would you rather have a team (your team) go to the world series, superbowl, stanley cup, or NBA championship and lose than not get there at all. I would rather have my team not go all the way to the end and lose, like the patriots a few years ago against the Giants, I would have rather they get knocked out in the playoffs than go all the way only to come up short. But Brady still has 3 superbowls, so it wasnt the end of the world. I feel the same way about all the teams I cheer for, I just hate seeing my team go all the way and lose in the very end, I would rather them not even make the playoffs rather than get knocked out in the playoffs. I have alwyas felt that way, most people would probally want their team to go all the way to game 7 of the WS and lose rather than get knocked out early. I prefer them to be knocked out early. There is something about being so close and not being able to win.
Are the Colts still contenders?????
The recent saga surrounding Peyton Manning and the fact that he may miss a few games has most people feeling that the Colts will be reduced to a .500 team at best. Many experts are quoted as saying that the demise of the Colts is near because they go as Peyton Manning goes. Now to a certain extent the demise of every team is inevitable. But why do people think that Peyton Manning is going down? Even with him missing a few games I sill have the Colts in the playoffs , because it’s not like this kneck injury has caused him to forget everything he knows about football. With a healthy Manning and supporting cast the Colts are still perennial contenders. And that will not change until Peyton Manning is gone. The reason being , as much as they struggled last year they still went 10-6 while being dessimated with injuries. If all the colts offensive skill players are healthy and at Peyton manning’s disposal when he returns , the Colts shouldn’t skip a beat.
Interesting stat Saints VS Vikings
Last season when the Saints played the Vikings the Vikings were plus 4 in the turnover ratio and won by 3 points. This year in the playoffs the Saints were plus 4 in the turnover ratio and won by 3 points. Pretty evenly matched in both years. It was a good but rough game and my hats off to the Vikings and their fans. They put up a heck of a fight. Lcash
Jets/Colts
This is what a championship game is supposed to look like, even if, like me, you were rooting for a different result. Gang Green will be back; Colts are moving on to the SB. By far the best-played game of the playoffs thus far.
After just over half a season…… After watching Howard swing at everything a LHP throws within 6ft of home plate yet again in the late innings, I have to wonder…Is Rueben Amaro going to stand pat or make a move for a RH bat at the trade deadline. It’s obvious they need SOMEONE to break up those LH hitters in the lineup that the opposing team doesn’t laugh at (ie. Mayberry/Francisco) We could have a staff full of Halladay, Lee and Hamels clones, but come playoff time our opponents will have comparable staffs and bullpens. So it ends up being a coin flip. Does Amaro settle for a “coin flip” in the playoffs again, or does he tip the scales in our favor with a trade? Any thoughts as to who we might acquire and give up to get them?
Playoffs to be expanded 2012. Your thoughts?
Read this some time back and I know we’ve discussed the possibility but now it seems to be a sure thing. I for one think it would be good ,as I really enjoy the game I like the Playoff atmosphere that much more! As for BB as a whole I think it will be good for a lot of reasons.A BIG Plus is, this threads NOT about the Sox! , Red that is. :smileywink: _________________________________________________________________________________________ NEW YORK — Commissioner Bud Selig expects the playoffs to expand from eight teams to 10 for the 2012 season. Selig went public last fall with his support for expanded playoffs, and the matter is subject to collective bargaining with the players’ association. “I would say we’re moving to expanding the playoffs, but there’s a myriad of details to work out,” Selig said Thursday at his annual meeting with The Associated Press Sports Editors. “Ten is a fair number.” Selig said scheduling is the major issue of discussion, including how many games the new wild-card round will be. The two wild cards in each league would meet, and the winners would advance to the following round against division winners. “The more we’ve talked about it, I think we’re moving inexorably to that,” he said.
I think the Phillies put too much emphasis
on their starting rotation. Yes, we all know it takes quality pitching to win the WS, and yes the Phillies probably have the best 3 starters in their rotation with their # 4 guy being quality as well. But the Phillies were maybe to busy putting a great starting rotation together, that what I think is going to cost them another WS is their weak bats and closer, Brad Lidge. The Phillies could’ve and should’ve done better, he’s good, but not quality. Yes the Phillies will have a great season and make it to the playoffs , but I think their weak bats and bullpen is going to ruin what the 4 great starters will do for them. The Yankees Im sure are going to make a big move before the trade deadline and get a quality pitcher to pick up the slack for the retired petite, the Yankees will always swing the bat, and we don’t need to mention their bullpen especially now with sorianio. I still think the sox will edge out the yanks but it will be a dog fight right to the end, I just don’t see the phillies with their current lineup or closer beating either the sox or yanks and will fall just short once again. Brad Lidge needs to find a team like KC, or maybe the pirates, if the Phillies can find a quality closer and two strong bats by the trade deadline than the situation would change dramatically, but as it stands, the phillies will fall short.
All this hype about the Steelers offense and the staggering stats for Big Ben. Yall forgot Aaron has proved he ain’t no joke either. His arm has been stellar through the playoffs and I don’t see him tossing up any ill passes for the “steelcorners” to pick off end take home to put in the display case. By the way when was the last time the “steelcorners” faced a strong passing attack and shut them out?
NYY Rotation – What The **bleep** Is Going On?
Now I could drag out all those Rusty metrics that go beyond the basics of ERA and WHIP but why bother as they are available of even the most pedestrian of baseball site’s. Not necessary. Just think Mitre and Nova as the bottom end of the rotation or are they? You also have AJ Burnett who in previous yankee years would have either been shipped out or relegated to the lower end of the staff let alone the rotation. Phil Hughes is the poster boy for how misleading a W/L figure can be and his second half was not what one could call pristine. The only anchor is the real CY in CC whose importance last year was magnified by the dismal group that made up the rest of the staff and that group is even a notch worse this year. Enough pounding on the yankee staff no matter how much delight it brings but it brings about what most fans in baseball are wondering – especially in NY and Boston – and that is W-T-F is going on? You have Cashman publicly distancing himself from the Soriano signing. Is he trolling for a firing? Free has aptly pointed out the obvious weakness and the fact that one potential starter after another is gobbled up by others. This is not the NY way of aggressively pursuing talent to shore up a weakness. IMHO I still feel NY will be around the 95 win mark and get into the playoffs. Maybe Andy will return? Maybe a salary dump? Maybe someone will step up? But based on what has happened it is still W-T-F is going on?
the big weekend is here
we went thru pre season, and finaly it was time for the first games of the year, fans cheering on their teams week after week, after week twelve it all started to shape up,who would make the playoffs, this year it did go down to the last week,to know who was in and where the games would be held, after a good wildcard weekend, the next step, who would move on to the afc/nfc championship, great games and some suprises, been a great year so far,4 teams left until sunday, packers at the bears, should be a great game, and the jets at the burgh..who will move on,i was just thinking what a great year it has been for the nfl and the fans of the nfl,im cheering for my steelers,i do think they are ready, and i dont think it will go down to the last minute in this one,i think the steelers like28-20 but thats my opinion, the packers are great and tuff,i think they are looking past the bears,in the cold i think the bears bring a suprise to a very close game, winning by a field goal as time runs out, bears 21 packers20.
