The Post-Gazette has confirmed that the Steelers quarterback will be married July 23 somewhere in the Pittsburgh area to Ashley Harlan, of Hickory Township, Lawrence County. The website TMZ originally reported the news over the weekend after people began receiving "Save the Date" cards from Mr. Roethlisberger and Ms. Harlan. The two were engaged around Christmas. Mr. Roethlisberger repeatedly has declined to talk about his engagement and did so again today through a Steelers spokesman. The July 23 wedding won't give Mr. Roethlisberger much time for a honeymoon. Steelers training camp traditionally opens in late July/early August at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Meanwhile, the couple apparently have signed up for at least two online bridal registries -- assuming the listings are legitimate. An entry on Macy's bridal registry under "Ashley Harlan and Ben Roethlisberger," with a wedding date of July 23, 2011, reveals a taste for neutral color and simple design. White porcelain dishes ($84 for a four-piece place setting), serving dishes and bakeware; unadorned stainless steel cutlery ($63 for a five-piece setting), an ice bucket and serving pieces of polished metal and wood; Champagne flutes and wine glasses ($50 for a set of four) are all on the list. Another listing under "Ashley Harlan" at Crate & Barrel, also with the July 23 wedding date, has one unusual item: a plush, burgundy-colored chaise lounge with a curved arm and a $1,200 price tag. The other items are less than $50 -- white earthenware serving bowls and platters with ruffled edges, mixing bowls, a hand-blown glass pedestal and glass storage containers. Online bridal registries are easy to fake. One, under the name "AshleyandBen" on Amazon lists handcuffs, padlocks and a dog muzzle. With the Super Bowl XLV matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers so evenly matched, it might just come down to such a scenario. We put the question to our analysts and writers. Here's what they had to say: Gil Brandt: Rodgers I'm going to take Aaron Rodgers. Give me the quarterback who is most likely to escape and make a play when one is needed. Ben Roethlisberger can escape but is not quick. Next to Michael Vick, there's no quicker quarterback with escape skills than Rodgers. Vic Carucci: Roethlisberger Ben Roethlisberger already has delivered in the clutch in a Super Bowl. Also, his game is more conducive to what you want from a quarterback under such circumstances. By nature, he is constantly looking to buy extra time, move around and make the sort of plays that must be made when the pressure -- of the situation and from the opposing defense -- is at its greatest. His mindset is to constantly fight and find a way to win, which is exactly what is needed to be successful in this scenario. Charles Davis: Roethlisberger Big Ben for the simple fact that he’s done it already, and on the NFL’s biggest stage. Who will ever forget how he took Pittsburgh on the game-winning drive against Arizona after struggling to move the ball most of the second half? It was a drive, and a throw, for the ages. Aaron Rodgers is more than capable, but Roethlisberger has the hardware to prove that he’s been there, done that. Elliot Harrison: Roethlisberger Roethlisberger has shown time and again that he can be a clutch player. I also trust Pittsburgh's defense more, which would make it harder on Rodgers. Both guys are excellent out of the pocket, but Roethlisberger reminds me a little of a young John Elway -- when the play breaks down, he plays his best. A lot of times two-minute situations come down to who can play streetball better, and Roethlisberger is probably the best in the league at that. Pat Kirwan: Roethlisberger This season, Roethlisberger has more experience playing from behind in the fourth quarter, completing 102 of 165 passes with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Rodgers completed 64 of 103 passes with four TDs and three picks. Rodgers has been impressive in his limited postseason experience, never throwing an interception when losing or in the fourth quarter. Roethlisberger has much more postseason experience and has thrown 10 touchdowns with his team trailing. Roethlisberger's drive to beat the Cardinals in his last Super Bowl appearance gives him a slight edge. Jason La Canfora: Roethlisberger Roethlisberger is one of the greatest playmakers in NFL history. Period. Regardless of position. Third-and-19 against one of the top defenses in the league with the game on the line? No problem. He'll get it done. He has loads of Super Bowl experience and you just can't knock him down when the game is on the line. Rodgers has been one of the best red-zone quarterbacks eve Michael Lombardi: Roethlisberger Some players shy from pressure, some relish it. Ben Roethlisberger embraces the pressure, doing his best work when the game is in the balance. The two-minute drill is never predictable; when the scripted play breaks down, Roethlisberger is the best, more times than not making something out of nothing. The Steelers believe in their quarterback and they want the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. Just ask the Jets. Solomon Wilcots: Roethlisberger I’ll take Roethlisberger, simply because he’s been there before. Not only did he do it against the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, but he did it last year in a Week 15 win over the Packers, with a touchdown pass on the final play of the game. Steve Wyche: Roethlisberger With two minutes to go and down by a score, it's Ben Roethlisberger all day. I would take Roethlisberger over just about any other quarterback in the NFL, let alone Aaron Rodgers. Roethlisberger's clutch play is why I consider him to be among the best players in the NFL. He might not put up fantasy stats, but he puts up big play after big play for his team in the final seconds. There are a lot of quarterbacks who can throw for 400 yards and three touchdowns a game. Only three -- Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Roethlisberger -- can go 6-of-7 and drive a team 80 yards for a touchdown in the final two minutes without breaking a sweat. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...t_email_NL0203 Big Ben, all day long, is my choice..............

<table

"There's always, always rumors out there about professional athletes, especially about me," Roethlisberger said. "You guys know that I'm not going to talk about my personal life. My own singular focus right now is on the playoffs and trying to get to the Super Bowl." When asked if that was a confirmation or denial of his rumored engagement, Roethlisberger said, "I'm not going to talk about my personal life." The woman in question is from New Castle, according to Internet buzz. The engagement buzz comes approximately 10 months after a 20-year-old college student accused Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her in a nightclub bathroom in Milledgeville, Ga. Roethlisberger was never charged with a crime, but the incident that occurred last March nearly brought down his career in Pittsburgh. It also resulted in a six-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The suspension later was reduced to four games. Roethlisberger vowed to change, and at the end of August, he told the Tribune-Review that he had re-connected with religion. Since returning to the Steelers in October, Roethlisberger has re-established himself as one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks. He finished fifth in the NFL in passer rating (97.0) and extended his streak of consecutive seasons with at least 3,000 passing yards to five, which is a team record. Roethlisberger has played through several injuries, including a broken nose, in leading the Steelers to an AFC North title and the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs.

if it’s true, wouldn’t he consider this a distraction right before the playoffs ?…….:smileymad:

By Pittsburgh Tribune-Review<br

Kelly Naqi did a story for ESPN's "Outside the Lines" this weekend, focusing on Roethlisberger's image and reputation. She talked to former Steelers running back Najeh Davenport (notes) , former Steelers safety about Mike Logan (notes) , and some other people around the area. Here are some of the highlights. • Davenport estimated that about 60 percent of the locker room felt like Roethlisberger thought he was "bigger than the team," and not focused on winning. • Davenport also discussed a time when Joey Porter (notes) called out Roethlisberger in a team meeting for being the last one in to practice and the first one to leave. Porter also accused Roethlisberger of not being dedicated to the team, and criticized him for not fraternizing with his teammates. • Mike Logan confirmed the incident where Porter addressed Roethlisberger, and said that all the things Porter mentioned were already being talked about in the locker room. • Someone identified only as "a close friend of a Steelers player" said that the reason Roethlisberger had a bodyguard was because of an incident where a man put a gun to Roethlisberger's head because Roethlisberger was involved with the man's girlfriend. • Naqi spoke with people who work at Pittsburgh bars and nightclubs, and they described Ben as someone who was condescending to the staffs and rude to other customers. One bar owner said Roethlisberger always expected he and his entourage to be given free food and drinks. Roethlisberger wouldn't talk to ESPN for the story, and neither would Joey Porter. Roethlisberger did release a statement today about his suspension , though, apologizing to his teammates and fans and vowing to comply with the terms of the suspension. This is the kind of report that wouldn't ever see the light of day if there weren't some other dastardly story about the guy. That's not to say that it isn't true -- Kelly Naqi's a fine reporter -- but is it a big deal? Should we care? After all, no one said anything about Roethlisberger-related locker room troubles when the Steelers were winning Super Bowls. Maybe this is just a mountain-out-of-a-molehill thing that surfaces now, because it's convenient and fits the "Roethlisberger as dirtball" narrative. If there's any practical issue here, I think it's this: If Roethlisberger has to mend some fences in the Steelers locker room, perhaps it'll be even tougher than expected. If someone didn't like him before the sexual assault allegations, it's hard to imagine they'll warm up to the guy now, no matter what he does. We'll just have to wait and see how that plays out. Locker rooms have been divided over less.

<a

She talked to former Steelers running back Najeh Davenport(notes), former Steelers safety about Mike Logan(notes), and some other people around the area. Here are some of the highlights.

• Davenport estimated that about 60 percent of the locker room felt like Roethlisberger thought he was “bigger than the team,” and not focused on winning.

• Davenport also discussed a time when Joey Porter(notes) called out Roethlisberger in a team meeting for being the last one in to practice and the first one to leave. Porter also accused Roethlisberger of not being dedicated to the team, and criticized him for not fraternizing with his teammates.

• Mike Logan confirmed the incident where Porter addressed Roethlisberger, and said that all the things Porter mentioned were already being talked about in the locker room.

• Someone identified only as “a close friend of a Steelers player” said that the reason Roethlisberger had a bodyguard was because of an incident where a man put a gun to Roethlisberger’s head because Roethlisberger was involved with the man’s girlfriend.

• Naqi spoke with people who work at Pittsburgh bars and nightclubs, and they described Ben as someone who was condescending to the staffs and rude to other customers. One bar owner said Roethlisberger always expected he and his entourage to be given free food and drinks.

Roethlisberger wouldn’t talk to ESPN for the story, and neither would Joey Porter. Roethlisberger did release a statement today about his suspension, though, apologizing to his teammates and fans and vowing to comply with the terms of the suspension.

This is the kind of report that wouldn’t ever see the light of day if there weren’t some other dastardly story about the guy. That’s not to say that it isn’t true — Kelly Naqi’s a fine reporter — but is it a big deal? Should we care?

After all, no one said anything about Roethlisberger-related locker room troubles when the Steelers were winning Super Bowls. Maybe this is just a mountain-out-of-a-molehill thing that surfaces now, because it’s convenient and fits the “Roethlisberger as dirtball” narrative.

If there’s any practical issue here, I think it’s this: If Roethlisberger has to mend some fences in the Steelers locker room, perhaps it’ll be even tougher than expected. If someone didn’t like him before the sexual assault allegations, it’s hard to imagine they’ll warm up to the guy now, no matter what he does.

We’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out. Locker rooms have been divided over less.

<ul

On Monday, the district attorney announced in Milledgeville , Ga., that the case would not be prosecuted due to lack of evidence. The testimony appeared in documents obtained Thursday by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette under the Georgia Open Records Act. The documents included a written statement by the woman who filed the complaint that said, "His bodyguards told my friends they couldn't pass them to get to me," according to an article on the Post-Gazette website. STEELERS' ROONEY: Vows discipline to Roethlisberger GOODELL MEMO: Tells teams conduct must improve A friend of the woman's told investigators that the alleged victim "was dragged by a bodyguard to the back room in (the Capital City night club). She was extremely intoxicated and not aware of what was happening." Another friend of the woman told investigators that she approached a "security guard" and told him that the alleged victim was "in no shape to be back there with Ben Roethlisberger." The friend added, "He couldn't look me in the eye, and told me he didn't know what was going on. My friend went to open the door and it was locked." At a press conference earlier this week, District Attorney Fred Bright addressed statements given by members of a group of about 8-10 men who were with Roethlisberger in Milledgeville and in a VIP area of the club, an area screened off by a black curtain. Bright said Capital City had a bouncer stationed in front of the curtain. "They did say 'let only girls back here,' " said Bright. Bright also said there were two "bodyguards" of Roethlisberger in the VIP area. An attorney for two off-duty policemen from the Pittsburgh area who were with Roethlisberger says the two were there as friends and not working at bodyguards. "None of the bodyguards or anybody's entourage talked about Ben being back there by himself with the victim, about any sex, about knowing about any sex, anything of that," said Bright. Bright said one of the "bodyguards" told investigators that the alleged victim "asked to use the restroom … and so she was escorted back there and sat on a stool and that's all he saw." Bright said the "bodyguard" also said he did not see Roethlisberger go back there. "None of the bodyguards … or any of the entourage (in their accounts with investigators) saw anything improper going on back there between Ben and the (alleged) victim," said Bright. Bright said that one of the alleged victim's friends told investigators that she told a bodyguard that the woman was "too drunk to be alone back there with Ben. We need to get her." Bright also said the manager of the club told the friends, "Look, he's an NFL quarterback with the Steelers. … He's not going to risk his career back there doing anything foolish."

By <a
