The Doctor commits malpractice

What looked to be a great pitching match-up last night between the reigning National League Champions, the Phillies, and the World Champion Yankees was undone by the sloppy pitching of Roy “Doc” Halladay. In giving up a triple, three home runs and 5 runs in total Doc hardly looked like the same guy who had pitched a perfect game earlier in the season. For his part C.C Sabaitha was just O.K and pitched what I call a “quality start”-3 runs in 7 innings. Before there is any confusion about this I still think of the Phillies as a elite team. They are just not playing that way. Some people may say, with some justification, that the injury of Jimmy Rollins is the reason. It may be part of it but it didn’t make Halladay look like a batting practice pitcher last night. With the Braves and Mets pulling ahead Philadelphia had better get its act together soon. The Yankees have had injuries and underperfomers too but they are tied for their Division with the best record in MLB. Tampa is going to be hard to beat this year. The Phillies are carrying a heavy payroll and its win or else for them. Ah, life at the top is hard and even harder staying there.
